Job Description:

The Professional Service Engineer (PSE) works as a critical element of the VT iDirect Global Technical Services Team, in direct support of our global client base. This PSE position is primarily responsible for post-sales support, training delivery, and professional service activities in support of our clients. iDirect is looking for engineering talent willing to take on the challenging opportunity that this position presents. The PSE will be required to travel in support of customer presentation delivery, installations, system upgrades, training and other onsite activities. The role is technically demanding and will involve a period of training working with iDirect’s Global Services Team as well as iDirect’s pre-sales Systems Engineering team. The PSE will also be required to provide technical education to clients that use our technology.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform implementation professional services such as installations, upgrades and system migrations.

  • Deliver client facing training courses in support of the iDirect global education department.

  • Work with account managers and SEs to provide Technical Account Management duties in assigned accounts

  • Professional services will be delivered on-site at the customer locations or via remote managed services.

  • Perform system testing and verification to meet established acceptance criteria.

  • Manages customer support, issue escalation and tracks all activities in Remedy ticketing system.

  • Assist TAC in identifying network faults using network management tools.

  • Provide status reports to customers and management in accordance with established escalation procedures.

  • Provide input to Engineering for subsequent revisions of code and hardware.

  • Provide support for testing and validation of new software and hardware releases in support of the product assurance team.

Education and/or Experience:

  • BA/BS Communications, Engineering, Computer Science or closely related field.

  • Language skills - English

  • Support the Euro region primarily with the ability to support other global locations as required.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are a necessity.

  • Experience in satellite communication, networking or related industry, preferably in the Technical Support /System Engineering function is required.

  • Background in TCP/IP internetworking, general routing, layer-2 protocols, multicast, and VLANs.

  • Experience in Technical Assistance Center. Tier 3 technical support in Satellite Communication.

  • Experience in technical training development.

  • Experience in technical training delivery.


    Required Experience:

  • Background in RF/ Satellite communication concepts.

  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, QOS and general Networking/IP Routing

  • Ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve, complex, and unique networks solution involving mixed media and protocols.

  • Ability to capture and interpret IP packet traces.

  • Experience in iDirect Network Planning Tool (iNPT), with use of INPT for satellite link budgeting and network design of iDirect Networks.

  • Experience in iDirect Evolution Hub installation.

  • Experience in planning, installation and integration iDirect Mesh networks, both Evolution and Infinity.

  • Experience in iDirect Commercial Aero VSAT networks - planning, integration and implementation.

  • Knowledge and experience in Cellular Backhaul optimization technologies and hardware (iDirect SatHaul, Sevis, Xiplink).

  • 10+ years of experience in Satellite Communication.

  • Strong working knowledge of Linux/UNIX, MYSQL, Postgres, VMWare, and other server based OS/applications.

    Desired Qualifications:

  • Technical Certification (CCNA, CCDA, CCNP, CCDP, LINUX/UNIX, MySQL, Postgres, VMware, IOM, AIOM, iQBC, Velocity IOM, Velocity GBWM, iDirect BHI, iDirect Satmanage administrator, iDirect SatHaul , iDirect L2oS)

  • Foreign language speaking experience.
