iDirect in in search of an experienced engineer to complement the IT operations team on our path to adopting modern DevOps techniques to gain greater efficiencies, decrease time to market, eliminate shadow IT and drive maximum value for the business. The ideal candidate will have broad knowledge and experience that stretches across multiple applications, platforms and infrastructures. We are seeking a team player that has an eagerness to identify automation opportunities and implement them in a collaborative manor.

VT iDirect is a leading ground systems provider to the commercial and military satellite industries, offering platforms connecting a variety of satellite constellations with an array of segment targets and use-cases, including passenger and business aircraft, cruise and shipping maritime vessels, and military and government assets. This position, based in Herndon, VA, works alongside the DevOps, Helpdesk and Business Application teams, to maintain, administer and deploy by implementing technology automations that enable predictable and repeatable delivery of secure services, with confidence and with the minimum amount of human interaction.

Job Description:

  • Recommending and implementing automation solutions.
  • Performance analysis of IT and workload processes to identify efficiencies
  • Follow Incident Management, Change Management processes
  • Available to work outside core business hours when required
  • Application administration for enterprise applications
  • Develop, document and implement enterprise standards and procedures
  • Help bridge the gap between product development, development operations and infrastructure teams by providing a DevOps role in the IT Operations team.
  • Troubleshoot issues that span hardware, software, applications and network.
  • Research and recommend emerging technologies to increase cost effectiveness.
  • Document existing systems architecture and technology portfolio.
  • Keeping iDirect secure.
  • Mentor other team members


Experience and Skills:

Required Experience:

  • Expertise with configuration management tools in production environments (Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Salt) 5+ Years
  • Prior experience and understanding of implementing infrastructure as code and software defined networking in both cloud and physical environments. (Terraform, CloudFormation)
  • Experience of Test driven development
  • Understanding of SAFe and Lean methodologies
  • Prior success in automating a real-world production environment.
  • Advanced Working knowledge of Enterprise LAN/WAN network architecture, TCP/IP, routing protocols, load balancing, firewalls and networking best practices (Cisco)
  • Expertise with Workload Automation
  • Application administration and support
  • Proficient in at least one scripting language (PowerShell, Python, Bash, Ruby, Perl.)
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Time management and multi-tasking
  • Information Security aware, sensitive and savvy
  • Exposure to systems that proactively monitor health and performance of systems and infrastructure
  • Experience with revision control source code repositories (GIT, SVN) 5+ Years
  • Prior experience and understanding of virtualized Environments. 5+ Years
  • Strong Practical knowledge of administering server and workstation operating systems and architectures (Windows and Linux) 5+ Years


Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software, Systems, Electrical Engineering or other technical field. A graduate degree a plus.
